The British Transport Police

The Company’s affiliation with the BTP was formed in 2018 in recognition of the force’s vital and unique role policing the nation’s rail network and playing an invaluable role in significant events such as the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and in the tragic terrorist actions in London and Manchester.

BTP is the specialist and dedicated police force for Britain’s railways, responsible for policing the journeys of more than 8.6 million passengers who use the railway and underground networks every day. Its jurisdiction covers railway infrastructure, stations, trains, deports and many light rail systems providing a policing service to rail operators, their staff and passengers across the country.  It also polices the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, Midland Metro tram system, Croydon Tramlink, Tyne and Wear Metro, Glasgow Subway and IFS cloud cable car.

BTP’s mission is to provide a safe and reliable railway, working together to protect the rail community by creating a hostile environment for crime.

The Chief Constable is Lucy D’Orsi QPM.
