Providing Lifelines and Pathways to Stability in South London
Spires is a frontline charity supporting people experiencing homelessness and vulnerability across South London, particularly in Lambeth, Croydon, and surrounding boroughs. It provides an open‑door lifeline for adults facing homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental health challenges, domestic abuse, or exploitation. Core services include hot meals, clothing, housing and benefits advice, health access, and specialist women’s outreach, ensuring individuals who often fall through gaps in statutory provision receive immediate and compassionate support.
Impact of the Work

Spires’ work is recognised locally and nationally. In 2023, it received a national commendation for Outstanding Achievement in Outreach and Rough Sleeper Provision from Homeless Link. Its expanded multi‑site model now reaches communities in Streatham, West Norwood, Stockwell, Brixton, and Croydon, with further growth into Tooting planned for 2025.

In 2024, Spires supported more than 700 people, helping 120 into stable accommodation and preventing 35 evictions. Its women’s services—including dedicated outreach to vulnerable women and sex workers—provide critical pathways to safety, health care, and long‑term support out of exploitation.

Despite losing significant funding in late 2024, Spires has secured new multi-year grants, but community fundraising campaigns remain essential to protecting its core services.

The Drapers’ Company is proud to support Spires’ mission to reduce homelessness and strengthen community resilience in South London. Drapers’ grants contribute to the charity’s core costs—ensuring the continuation of vital frontline services for people who otherwise have nowhere else to turn. Internal correspondence reflects the Company’s commitment to enabling Spires’ life‑changing work with homeless and vulnerably housed individuals.
