When you are next in Drapers’ Hall garden, do make a point to look at the beautiful carving by Imogen Long that has recently been unveiled by the Master. Installed on the external wall of the Wardens’ Room, the carving celebrates the life of Liveryman Dr Bill Frankland who died in 2020. It is the second in a series of commissions that will celebrate the lives of past Drapers who have contributed significantly to the good of the nation and our Company, the first having been to celebrate the renowned carver Grinling Gibbons, Citizen and Draper, created by Miriam Johnson in 2021. This series also will provide a valuable opportunity for the Company to deepen its links with the stone and wood carving course at the City & Guilds of London Art School, whose students and alumni are invited to submit proposals for each commission. Warm congratulations to Imogen for creating such an elegant, thought provoking and outstanding carving.
