Walter’s Close is a peaceful and welcoming almshouse estate in Brandon Street, just off the Walworth Road in the London Borough of Southwark.
Our Heritage of Care
Originally founded in 1656 to support poor elderly people in the local area, Walter’s Close was rebuilt in two phases in 1961 and 1971. The estate was designed to offer safe, independent living for retired individuals in financial or social need.
Today, it comprises 29 one-bedroom flats, four two-bedroom flats, and seven studios, all of which are self-contained and intended to promote comfortable and independent living.
A Supportive Community
The homes are arranged around two attractive courtyards with well-maintained gardens, creating a calm and pleasant environment. Residents also benefit from excellent communal facilities, including a community hall and laundry.
An active residents’ social club organises a wide range of events and outings, helping to build a warm, connected community.
Eligibility and Support
Accommodation is prioritised for people of limited financial means who are able to demonstrate a genuine housing need. The estate is owned by the Drapers’ Almshouse Charity and managed by The Trust Partnership, ensuring the estate is professionally overseen and aligned with our founding charitable objectives.
